A History of Preston in Hertfordshire
“St Martin’s Church” booklet
To celebrate more than a century of worship at St Martin’s, an A5 booklet has been created. It consists of seventy-two pages (including the covers) in full colour. The paper is 130gsm silk (the same quality as the History of Preston book) and the booklet is bound, not by staples, but perfect- bound using glue. The cover is of thick paper and laminated. There are more than ninety photographs in the booklet. The design approach is similar to the History of Preston book. The contents include an in-depth review of Preston’s religious history; the church at Preston School; events leading up to the building of St Martin’s; the laying of the foundation stone and the consecration; the gifts of furniture; worship at St Martin’s during the twentieth century; the churchyard; how the fabric has been maintained; prominent members of the congregation, from the clergy to those who have given service from the village; a complete listing of marriages and burials/ashes laid to date and a note of the earliest baptisms.
